A blue charcuterie board filled with Krusteaz buttermilk pancakes, slice fruit, nuts, and other fun toppings.

By now, you’ve noticed that breakfast has entered a new trending territory – charcuterie boards. While we most commonly picture these boards laden with meats, cheeses and nuts on a picnic blanket, they work with just about any kind of food. Except maybe soup. We don’t recommend that one.

So, how do we take this picture perfect picnic staple and transform it into an unbelievable breakfast experience? How to begin? First of all, breakfast is in your blood. You’ve got this! It’s all about how you present it. Think of your breakfast board as a Broadway show. There are many elements that go into delivering both an entertaining and satisfying experience to fans. In this case, fans of breakfast food

Find your stage.

Obviously, we will need a platform for your breakfast elements to truly shine. A custom made mahogany cutting board perhaps? Your grandma’s vintage china? Whatever you pick, it will be the foundation to building something wonderful. Depending on how many people will be indulging, opting for a larger surface area will save you the time of having to constantly replenish ingredients.

Choose your lead character(s).

What’s the central focus of your board? Pancakes? Waffles? Both? You’ll want to determine which element will take center stage and also require the most preparation.

We recommend starting with one or more of these:

  • Krusteaz® Buttermilk Pancakes (consider using a mold for customized shapes)
  • Krusteaz® Belgian Waffles (a breakfast sandwich board mayhaps?)
  • Krusteaz® Protein Buttermilk Pancakes (fruit goes GREAT with these guys)
  • Krusteaz® Protein Blueberry Pancakes (pair with another flavor of pancakes – the more options the merrier!)
  • Krusteaz® Wild Blueberry Muffins (we suggest letting these share the spotlight with one of the above)

Pick your supporting roles.

A complementary cast is essential to the overall performance. What will work best with your star character(s)? Start thinking about all the different delicious pairings that could be made. Here are some potential additions that we always gravitate toward:

Toppings:

  • Maple Syrup
  • Flavored Syrup
  • Butter
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Honey
  • Nutella®
  • Chocolate Chips

Proteins:

  • Eggs
  • Bacon
  • Sausage

Fruits:

  • Strawberries
  • Oranges
  • Bananas
  • Raspberries
  • Blueberries
  • Apples
  • Grapes

Make it (char)cute.

Before your board’s big debut, you’ll need a vision on how exactly you want everything to look on your stage. We recommend even sketching out on a piece of paper how you want each charcuterie character to fit in. With a carefully thought out composition, you’ll feel confident about a more harmonious presentation.

Have a dress rehearsal.

Adding your toppings and main ingredients to your board first will help you figure out how well everything is working together and allow your vision to come to life. Wear gloves while arranging your characters to keep things sanitary and organized.

Showtime!

See how many unique combinations can be made! Have fans give you a rating of your board. Keep track of what was most popular for your next board so you’ll know what to make more or less of. Remember, every board you make will be uniquely unforgettable; so, feel proud of yourself, have fun, and let your talent shine through in every creation.
